Club Captain, Sam Moore (17) produced his best round for some years with a score of 45 points which included birdies at holes 5 and 14 and reduces his handicap to 14. Mervyn Skates (16) had 7 pars and 11 bogeys to give him 41 points and second place. Patrick Buckley (8) with 39 points (31 gross) was enough to take the gross prize. David Galway (25), Daryl Scott (15), Hubert Shellard (21) and Bill Murphy (18) all returned 37 points, David taking 3rd prize with a score of 21 on the homeward nine holes.

The final round of the Wednesday Cup was played on 25th September. Three players each returned 38 points leaving the prizes to be decided on the count back. First prize went to Will Gault (21) who had 19 points in each 9 holes. Simon Ingram (6) came second with a better last 9 holes from Rodney Lowry (15) who failed to score at the last hole.

The main interest on the day was who would win the overall Wednesday Cup which is decided on the best 4 scores of the 6 qualifying rounds. Going into the last round Billy Friars (14) had been leading with a score of 152 points for the best 4 rounds to date. He held a slender lead of 2 points over Neil Roulston (8). Neil’s round of 33 proved good enough to allow him to discard a score of 31 points from round 2 and bring his overall score up to 152 points. Unfortunately Billy could not improve on his worst score of 31 leaving him also on 152 points. Neil’s 5th card of 31 was good enough to secure the Cup for him.

The Mooney Cup was won by Chris Moulds (1) for the best 4 rounds in the 6 Stroke play competitions. His score of 281 was 6 better than that of Gary Morrow (3) on 287. Stuart Campbell (4) was one further adrift on 288.

Lisburn’s juvenile golfers have had a very successful season with 9 players currently holding single figure handicaps, four of whom are already classified as category 1 golfers.
