His birdie four at seven made him up to 19 for the opening seven holes and the form continued as he slipped in another birdie, at two at twelve, for another four pointer. His only double bogey of the day acme with his six at the last but 34 points still kept Lloyd three in front of the rest.

Roy Martin was the best of these with 31 points to his credit. The sixteen handicapper picked up four points at the index one fifth but slipped to record a couple of one pointers to finish the front half with 16 points on the card. No further four pointers were to come however and Roy played out the back seven for 15 points to get the second bird. Denis McCrum scored the best of several 30 pointers for third spot. S A good birdy three at the long fifth got him four points but that didn’t quite make up for the two blank holes, seven and nine, that restricted the front seven score to just 14. A steady recovery was mounted and Denis was able to add 16 to the card and pip Robert Rainey, who also returned 30 points, to the higher slot. Robert slipped to a blank at seven but had scored well until then getting 14 points logged at the turn. No blanks appeared on the second seven and 16 came from it to get him on the list. Although Kevin Doherty only got the final turkey he was well pleased as he hit a hole in one at the sixth and did it on his birthday too! He is a Leeds supporter so he needs all the good news he can get. Reports of the “ace” vary from a full driver to a thinned eight but it still dropped. He is pictured here at home with his Leeds golf ball, birthday cards and Davy McLaughlin’s £2 from the match.
