Logue ends Open week on high

THE very successful Open Week at Foyle came to a conclusion on Saturday with the City Cabs sponsored Men’s Stableford and close on 100 competitors took to the pristine Ballyarnett fairways on a fine day.

It took a five way 39 points break of tie to decide the prize winners with 19 handicapper Finbar Logue getting the verdict virtue of his 22 points on the back 9 leaving Mehawl Jack (18) in second with Ruairi O’Connor (10) in third.

The gross winner also after a BOT finish was Stephen Martin who scored 35 points and City of Derry’s Alan Harvey (14) who finished with 30 points won the visitor’s prize and Ruairi Moore (5) with 23 points claimed the back nine. CSS was 36 points.

While Donal Hasson produced an excellent one under par round for his winning nett 66 in the Rankin Machine Tool Services Stroke on Friday having survived a break of decision with runner up Paul Nicell (17) with Cormac McGeady (4) finishing third also after a break of tie with a nett 69.

Gross prize went to Damien McKenna who scored 70, the back nine was Mark Doherty (21) who scored nett 34 and the ladies nine hole competition was claimed by Lorna Thompson (17) after she finished with nett 31.5 points and the CSS was 71.

On Friday there is an open stableford competition and a Captain’s nine hole scramble for ladies, gents and juveniles, which has a shot-gun start at 5.45pm will be down for decision.

All Members playing should enter names on sheet provided in shop by Thursday when draw for Teams will take place.

Mr Eddie Ball’s Captain Day, takes place on Saturday, while the club stableford competition will be staged on Sunday.
