MALACHY CURRAN BOWL WIN FOR JONATHAN

A close finish at Rathmore GC at the weekend saw Jonatahan Hutchinson take the Malachy Curran Memorial Bowl with a score of 68 net.

The eleven handicapper went out in three over par 38 and, although the back nine took 41 shots, the resulting gross 79 was still better than Jonathan’s handicap would suggest.

The single shot advantage came over Jimmy Magill, another eleven handicapper, who also fared better over the opening nine holes. Jimmy knocked in three birdies in a row, two at the third, four at the fourth and a three at the fifth to be three under par after five. The seventh took two shots back but Jimmy got to the halfway points in 38 shots. A couple of poor holes restricted the scoring in the back nine, a double bogey seven at the tenth and a nasty eight at seventeen meant Jimmy signed for 44 back and 80 total. This netted down to 69 and kept Jimmy one in front of Lee Baird on 70.

Lee was out in 40 and back in 41. He grabbed a good two at eleven but a closing five at eighteen undid this a bit. Harry Moon took fourth spot after his net 71.

Ian Kettyle’s 74 earned him the Best Gross prize. He was three over par for the opening nine and those three all came at the sixth! Ian’s bogey four at eighteen was his only other departure from par golf.
