Mark has the edge in Winter Cup by a point

It was the last competition of the regular season at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday with the aptly named Winter Cup up for grabs.

The winner with 41 points was Mark Hampton who had 20 points on the front nine which included four pars, three bogeys and two doubles bogeys on his card. His back nine of 21 points contained three pars, five bogeys and one double bogey for his total of 41 points.

In second place was Frank Gallagher with 40 points, scoring 19 points on the front nine with four pars, four bogeys and one double bogey. His back nine of 21 points contained one birdie at the 13th hole, three pars and five single bogeys for his total of 40 points.

In third place again with 40 points was Patrick Cushnahan. His front nine of 19 points included four pars, four bogeys and one double bogey while his back nine of 21 points contained one birdie at the 15th hole, three pars, four bogeys and one no score at the 14th.

The first gross prize was won by Kevin Munster with an excellent level par 72. Kevin went around the front nine in 35 shots which included two birdies at the 4th and 8th holes, five pars, and two bogeys, his back nine of 37 shots included one birdie at the 18th hole, seven pars and one bogey.

Fourth place went to Brian Brady with 40 points, Brain had 20 points on the front nine, which included one birdie at the 4th hole, five pars, and three bogeys, his back nine contained four pars, and five bogeys for another 20 points and his total of 40 points.

Fifth place went to in form Paul Gilmore with 40 points. Paul had 21 points on his front nine which included two birdies at the 4th and 8th holes, one bogey and five pars for a one under front nine, his back nine of 19 points contained seven pars, and two bogeys for a solid round of golf.

The second gross prize went to John Marley with a gross 75, this included a front nine of 36 with two birdies at the 3rd and 7th holes, four pars and three bogeys. His back nine of 39 contained one birdie at the 12th hole, five pars, and three bogeys.

The senior prize was won by David Mills with 36 points.

The front nine prize was picked up by Alan Beattie with 23pts. The back nine prize was won by Frank Stevenson with 22pts.

There were only two two’s in the competition with Alan Beattie and Desmond Skelton picking up a voucher for £50 each.
