Rossmore Cup

The Rossmore Cup team travelled to County Monaghan to play last year’s winners Rossmore Golf Club.

With Rockmount leading 2.5 - 1.5 from the first leg, team Captain Michael McCormick knew his team would need to play their best golf if they were to progress to the final.

An enforced change to last week’s team meant Michael had to play with Andy Carberry. The rest of the team was father and son duo William and Reece Wilson; Frank Wallace and Leslie Anderson and Gary Gorman playing with Neill Gowdy.

Rossmore proved how good a team they are winning three matches and were ahead in the fourth match when the result was in. Michael and Andy lost 3 & 2. Frank and Leslie lost 5 & 4; Gary and Neil lost 6 & 4 with William and Reece two down with two holes to play.

Junior Cowdy

The Junior Cowdy team were also in semi-final action and hoping to make the Junior Cowdy final for the second year in a row.

Team captain William Blyth selected the same team that had performed admirably against Tandragee in the first leg last week. Needing two points to secure victory he sent Russell Jamison and David Stronge out first.

They were followed by Sean Lawell playing with Robert Burns; Roger Heasley playing with Jim Madden and Alex Thompson playing with Niall Marshall.

Russell and David played solidly securing a win by two holes and Sean and Robert won 3 & 2. With the two points they needed already secure, the final two matches were called in. At the time, Roger and Jim were all square at the 15th and Niall and Alex were three up after 14.
