Martin wins Winter Cup

There was a good turn out for this as it was the last competition this season.

The Winter League starts next week and winter tees are in place for the 200 who are taking part.

The winner of the Winter Cup was Martin Boyle, playing off an 18 handicap, who scored 43 points.

Martin had five bogeys and four pars on the front nine for 20 points. It was his back 9 that won the day for Martin. Pars at seven, eight and nine were followed by a birdie att he tenth. A steady run of pars and bogeys helped him to score 23 points on the back nine.

Second place went to Colin Quinn with 42 points. This 11 handicapper has being playing good golf all season but has just missed out on lifting a prize.

Colin had 19 points on the outward nine and 23 points on the inward nine and with a two at the 12th. It was a good day’s golf from Colin with some reward at the end.

Third place was taken by Richard McKee, playing off a 16 handicap and also scorering 42 points.

Richard’s round got off to a good start with a par at the first then a birdie two at the second. The next seven were a mix of pars and one more birdie to record a score of 23 points on the outward nine.

The back nine was played just as steadily and Richard’s score of 19 points was good enough to lift the third prize.

The gross winner was big hitter Shane Moore with a level 72. Shane started off with a birdie at the first only to give it back at the third but the rest of the front nine was played in regulation pars.

The back nine was played much the same with two bogeys and two birdies in the mix.

Fourth was Shane Mulholland, playing off 13, with a score of 40 points. Shane had 21 points on the front half and 19 on the back nine.

Shane has had a good season with a few visits to the winner;s inclosure and says his team are the ones to beat in this years Winter League

Fifth place was taken by Paul Toman who, playing off eight, had 22 points on the front nine and 18 on the back nine.

The seniors winner was John Clarke, playing of a 14 handicap. John returned a score of 40 points with 22 pointts on the front and 18 on

the back nine.

The best front nine was won by Michael Mc Donald

The best back nine was won by John Marley. There was 15 twos.

The club council would like to thank all those members who turned up for the charity quiz and presentation night in aid of the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association in the Goodyear Social Club and to Shane O Neill who organised the quiz.
