Mary’s the toast of the club at Lady Captain’s Day

THERE was an air of excitement hanging over Banbridge Golf Club this week.

Yes the London 2012 Olympics and opening ceremony may have been a contributing factor, but for the ladies of Banbridge Golf Club it was the eagerly awaited ‘day of the year’ - Lady Captain’s Day, which was held on Saturday July 28.

Lady Captain Mary Dooher had pulled out all the stops and left no stone unturned in ensuring that the members and her guests had a fabulous day and evening.

The only Olympic torches on display were in the form of Mary’s prizes and what an array of beautiful prizes they were.

Alas, as is the case lady after lady came off the course with stories of, “if only I could have...” or, “If I hadn’t done...“

Perhaps we all try too hard, however none of that was the case for the lucky winners.

Full list of prize winners:

Overall winner - Robena McCandless; Best Gross - Mildred Hodgett; Runner up - Liz Ramsey.

OTHER NEWS – There was no competition on Tuesday due to the very wet conditions.

On Monday past Lady Vice Captain Robena McCandless, Helen Cocks and Karen Curran played in the Peggy Nelson Trophy at Dunmurry but were not successful in their endeavours.

On Thursday 25th Helen Cocks and Sheelagh English travelled to Hermitage Golf Club in Lucan, Dublin where they took part in the Peugeot Coronation Foursomes Area Fina, the winners of which progressed to play in St Andrews.

Unforunately the ladies despite their best efforts and on a day of very low scoring did not manage to emerge as victors

On Saturday the Miele team play their Ulster semi-final match against Clandeboye and we wish them every success in their attempts to reach the final.
