Matt proves he won’t be walked over with a win

With a one under par round of 71, Matt Lyness (5) won the Tankard at Lisburn GC with a net 66.

He had two birdies on the front nine, at the fourth and seventh but conceded strokes to par on the fifth and eighth.

Birdies at 14 and 15 left him two under par. He dropped a stroke at 17 but finished with a par three for a back nine of 35 to record his best round of the year.

Gary Brett (12) also scored a net 66. His two at the fourth helped him reach the turn in 38. He dropped five strokes in the next eight holes but finished with his second birdie two for a back nine of 40 only to lose out on count-back.

Gary Brett (10) finished four strokes behind on 70. Chris Moulds (1) had the best gross score with a round of 73.

A Stableford competition, played off the yellow tees, was won by Bob Hope with 39 points. Ken Alderdice was second with 36 on count-back from Alan Lowry.
