Maurice masters course

It was a club competition at Silverwood Golf Cub on Saturday and with strong winds and a damp course to contend with, it again proved a test for the members.

The winner this week was Maurice McCluskey with 42 points.

He had 21 points on his front nine with three bogeys at the 1st, 2nd and 9th holes and six straight pars from the 3rd to the 8th holes.

Another 21 points on his back nine with one birdie at the 14th hole, three pars at the 10th, 11th and 18th holes and five bogeys at his remaining holes saw him win by one point.

In second place with 41 points was Colin Thompson, Colin had a level par round of golf with 19 points on his front nine that included one birdie at the 9th hole, two bogeys at the 1st and 8th holes and six pars.

He scored 22 points on his back nine with two birdies at the 13th and 18th holes, only one bogey at the 16th hole, and six pars for another solid round of golf.

Third was Thomas Smyth with 39 points, he had 19 points on his front nine, including two birdies, five pars, one bogey and one double bogey.

On the back nine he had 20 points with three birdies at the 11th, 13th and 18th holes, three pars at the 12th, 14th and 15th holes, one double bogey at the 10th hole and two single bogeys.

The gross prize went to Eugene McKeever Jnr with a level par 72. He had a front nine of one under 34, with one birdie at the 8th hole, and eight pars and a back nine of 38 again with one birdie at the 13th hole, two bogeys at the 11th and 15th holes and six pars to win on a better back nine from Patrick Jordan.

Fourth place went to Shane O’Neill again with 39 points. He had 20 points on his front nine, with three birdies at the 6th, 8th, and 9th holes, three pars at the 2nd, 4th and 7th holes, one double bogey at the 1st hole, and two single bogeys,. His back nine of 19 points were complied with one birdie at the 18th hole, five pars at the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 17th holes, two single bogeys at the 11th and 16th holes and a nasty nine at the 15th hole.

Fifth was Martin McConville with 38 points, he had 18 points on his front nine and 20 points on his back nine with one birdie at the 13th hole.

The junior prizes were collected by 1st Jack Doyle 38pts,2nd Nathan Thomson 35 pts.

The senior prize was won by Joe McAvoy with 37 pts.
