Maxol Cup win for Nigel at Bushfoot on Saturday

Nigel Peacock may want to change his name to ‘Proud as a Peacock’ after scoring 48 points on Saturday to secure his win in the Maxol Cup tournament.

This is his fourth win of the season which has seen his handicap drop from eighteen to eleven since April after a great run of form by the golfer.

This latest win was by far his best score, 48 points represents a round of 73 for the then fifteen handicapper and was seven points better than second.

Nigel signalled his intentions as he knocked in a birdie three at the first and , dropping just three shots on the remainder of the nine, had 22 points on the card.

His four at the long fifteenth balanced out one of his two back nine bogeys but still got him back home with another 26 points scored for his grand total of 48 and leave him on top of the pile for the day’s play.

Derick Johnston scored the best of the 41s to take second place on countback.

He hit a birdie three at the ninth to be out with 19 points scored and this settled him down to come back in just three over par for another 22 to grab runners up spot.

Mark McKillop lost out on second with 19 points for his countback effort.

Mark had two birdies on his outward nine to be out in level par for 22 points.

Just one bird on the way back, a three at ten, coupled with a nasty six at the twelfth, meant 19 points for eight handicap Mark meaning he had to make do with third place.

Beverly hits a 69

Meanwhile, Beverly Watton returned a nett score of 69 to win the Ladies 18 Hole Stroke competition at Bushfoot Golf club on Tuesday.

She finished six strokes ahead of runner up Maureen Pentland who finished with a nett 75.
