The 32-year-old finished -14 for the tournament, held at Castle Stuart. The event was won by American Phil Mickleson, who saw off Branden Grace in a play-off.

Maybin’s best round came on Saturday when he posted a sensational score of 64 (-8), which included eight birdies and an eagle on the par-five sixth. In the opening two rounds he carded 69 (-3) and 70 (-2).

The Ballyclare man, who tied eighth at the French Open earlier this month, now switches his attention to next weekend’s Open Championship at Muirfield.
