The competitions began on the Sunday with a mixed foursomes event which was won by Kevin McGarry (7) and partner Jackie Brown (12), who received 10 shots on handicap, half of their combined total.

Their first nine holes produced six pars, two bogeys and a birdie at the seventh for one over gross and 22 points, to which they added a further 18 after four pars and five bogeys on the second nine.

Second place went to John Brown (10) partnered by Heather McGarry (20) who returned 36 points, of which 21 came from the outward nine but the second nine was not up to the same standard as they failed to score on three of the holes.

The men’s open stableford on the Monday was won by Gerald McLarnon who, playing off a handicap of 16, posted a total of 41 points, of which 20 came from the front nine, where he scored five pars.

The back nine opened with a trio of dropped shots followed by a birdie on the 13th, only to ‘ding’ the 14th and he scored pars at the final two holes for a further 21 points.

Second nett was WAH Montgomery (12), also with 41 points, but he lost out to McLarnon by two shots over the last six holes.

Montgomery dropped four shots over the opening three holes but parred the remaining six for 20 points, then he had six pars and three bogeys on the back nine for a further 21 points.

Third nett was Denis Stewart (18), also with 41 points, of which 21 came from the outward nine holes, while two pars from the final three holes proved vital.

John Robinson (3) notched his second gross prize in three days when he played the course in one over par, 69 shots.

The competition on the Wednesday was an open stableford which was won by six-handicapper David Smith who accumulated 42 points from his round of level par.

David’s card showed 14 pars, dropped shots on the third and 11th, plus birdies on the fifth and 17th for equal nines of 21 points.

Second nett was won by William Owens (18) with 40 points. A superb front nine produced 24 of those points but the second nine was something of an anti-climax with just a further 16 points gained.

Third nett was Clifford Worthington (11) who returned the best of four 39 point returns, having had 20 on the second nine.

Fourth nett went to Gary Black (2) who is normally more accustomed to winning the gross prizes but on this occasion he amassed a total of 39 points after playing the course in one under par gross.

His last six holes total was two points better than fifth nett winner Philip W Martin (7) who in turn had a better second nine total from Allan Campbell (23).

The best gross prize was won by scratch handicapper Alex McCloy who played the course in one under par 67 shots.

A first nine of seven pars, a bogey and a birdie at the third, was added to on the second nine with four pars and two bogeys but he had three birdies.
