McCaffrey to the fore

SIXTEEN handicapper Liam McCafferty took the top prize in Prehen’s latest Sunday Society competition beating second placed Bernard McDaid (18) by virtue of a favourable better back six holes, with both players having scored 30 points over the 13 holes played.

Graham Hepburn (4) was best of three players on 29 points, his back nine being decisive. John Chamber (7) recorded three consecutive birdies in his round to finish fourth.

Late finisher Stephen McKeegan (4) took fifth place with his 29 points and Jim McDaid (13) secured the sixth and final place with his 28 points, the best of a quartet on that mark.

While John Hancock (11) finally got the bird he was looking for in Prehen’s weekly Turkey and Spirits competition, his 31 points sealed with a fine birdie at the last hole gaining him his Christmas dinner.

This year’s President’s Prize winner Jeremy Thatcher (10) took second place and a bottle of spirits with 29 points and Tony Murray (17) secured his second bottle of spirits (so far) with his 28 points and third place.

Nine handicapper Alastair Crockett was best of the day in the weekly Thursday Society competition at Prehen, his well compiled 31 points over the 13 holes played giving him a one shot advantage over runner up Ricky Porter (13) and third placed Aubrey Taylor (4) their positions being decided by a tie break.

Incidentally Aubrey’s prize came at the expense of his brother Raymond who also had the same score but lost out on the count back.

Meanwhile the annual Turkey Bingo takes place in the clubhouse on Sunday, December 2, at 7.30pm and all members and friends are invited.
