McCallion finally wins big at Prehen

Despite the unseasonal cold and wet weather he scored a fine 41 points for a most convincing five shot winning margin.

He even had the luxury of being able to blank the last hole. With his power the prediction is single figure handicap before season end.

Peter Leeson (16) stumbled badly over the last few holes but his 36 points was still good enough to secure second place. Third and fourth place were decided on a tie break, Shane Kelly (18) taking third on 35 points over Paul Concannon (14) thanks to his superior back nine.

A very modest 28 points was all that was needed to give Stephen McKeegan (3) the gross prize on a count back. George Curry (13) just missed the bus for the big prizes, his 21 points securing him the first nine but a bad finish cost him dearly. Stephen Orr (11) won the second nine on 18 points after recovering from a disappointing start.

This Saturday members and visitors play in the Julian Open.

While Jonathan Heywood (23) is determined to keep the family name to the fore with his 41 point winning score in the weekly Thursday Open at Prehen.

An impressive 17 points on the front nine was followed by an excellent 24 points on the back nine to keep him on top of the large field. Just for good measure his father, Ernie (2) once again took the best gross prize on 35 points.

The second nett prize went to Michael McDaid (11) with 40 points.
