Following the cancellation of the O’Kane Cup at Ballymena Golf Club in June, the opportunity was taken to replay the competition on Saturday, October 25.

The winner was Charlie McCooke who, playing off a handicap of 12, posted a total of 45 points in weather conditions which wouldn’t have looked out of place at the time of year the competition had initially been scheduled for.

That impressive total meant McCooke had three points to spare over runner-up Warren Overton.

McCooke opened his round with a par, followed by dropped shots on the second and third but he then reeled off six pars to be through the front nine in two over par gross for 22 stableford points.

The second nine saw him par the 10th, only to drop a shot apiece at 11 and 12 but his final six holes consisted of four threes - of which two were birdies - plus another dropped shot on the penultimate hole, before completing his round with a par for an additional 23 points.

Runner-up Overton (23) opened his round with two pars only to drop 10 shots over the next seven holes - which included four double bogeys - yet he still managed 19 points for the nine holes.

The second nine saw Warren register everything from a two to a six and despite having no pars, he added 23 points for the nine holes, aided by birdies at 13 and 14 for four points each.

That second nine total pushed Jim Warwick into third place after he scored 20 points on the first nine, including a birdie at the seventh and he added to that on the homeward stretch where there was another birdie, at the 13th.

Fourth place went to William Andrews (23) with a 40-point total, one better than fifth-placed Nigel Douglas (19) who in turn had a better back nine to push Brian Dempster (17) into sixth position.

The best gross score once again came from Gary Black who played the course in three over par.
