The scoring was very good and at the final count, the winner was Sean McGarry (5), a close friend of David’s in his playing days where, as low handicappers, both represented the club in senior team games.

Sean opened his round with four pars to which he added two bogeys, a par plus birdies at the sixth and ninth to be out in level par for 20 points.

The back nine was a case of par golf as he parred the first eight holes and then signed off with a birdie three on the final hole which proved vital as it took his total for the nine holes to 22 points and enabled hi to win the competition on a better second nine from Colin Robinson.

Playing off a handicap of a shot per hole, Colin scored five pars, three bogeys and a birdie on the eighth which resulted in 25 stableford points.

The second nine was not of the same standard, where he scored pars on the 16th and 18th, four bogeys and three double bogeys, meaning he could only add 17 points to his superb front nine total.

Paul Stevenson (6) claimed the third prize with a total of 41 points and by virtue of a better second nine from Stephen Surgenor Jnr.

Paul dropped a shot on the opening hole but retrieved it with a birdie on the second and fifth as he completed his opening nine holes in level par for 21 points.

The back nine saw Stevenson score seven straight pars only to drop two shots on the 17th but he did not let that annoy him as a birdie three at the last hole meant he had completed the 18 holes in one over par gross.

Surgenor (16) registered six pars and three bogeys on the outward trip, which yielded 23 points.

The inward journey was an up-and-down event where he scored four pars, two bogeys, two double bogeys and the short par four was a non-event, yet Stephen still managed to add 18 points to his front nine total.

Fifth prize winner was immediate past club captain James Drennan (12) who returned a total of 40 points and with a better second nine from Adam Heron.

Drennan opened his round with a par but followed that with a non-score and then completed the outward nine for 19 points.

The inward nine was slightly better as he recorded five pars, bogeys on the 11th and 14th and a double bogey on the 16th.

A birdie on the 13th helped matters and a total of 21 points home pushed Adam Heron into sixth place after he had 20 points on each nine.

Adam, playing off 11, posted six pars and three bogeys on the first nine holes and the second nine contained five pars plus four bogeys in what was some really steady golf.

The best gross score was returned by two-handicapper Gary Black who played the 18 holes in two under par, 66 shots.

He commenced his round with birdies on the first and third and the only dropped shot came on the par four fifth.

Into the back nine with a par, he again had a dropped shot, this time on the 11th, and the other seven holes were five pars, with birdies on the 14th and 15th and that would have given Gary 40 points on a nett basis.

The back nine produced three pars plus six bogeys which equals 19 points.

Smyth had a similar total but the nines’ total was reversed with a one over front nine producing 19 points whereas the second nine, where he was three over, yielded 18 points.
