McGeady comes out on top at Rosapenna

Michael McGeady appears to be enjoying his stint as Captain of the North-Western Alliance, the North-West member producing the goods at Rosapenna last Saturday.

With the weather conditions similar to those the Alliance experienced in Nairn & Portnoo two weeks ago, 71 players had to deal with a strong was blowing across the course from the sea making club selection very difficult.

McGeady completed the front nine in 35 shots, four less than another of the other competitiors.

He dropped a stroke at the par four 6th but got it back at the par five 8th.

His closest pursuer, not for the first time, was Lisfannon colleague, Brian McElhinney.

But Michael was on the top of his form and although he dropped two strokes on the back nine he still reigned supreme.

Ballyliiffin’s Damien Mooney was five over on the front nine and despite dropping another shot at the 10th, he really knuckled down when recording birdies at the two par fives and at the 16th and 18th.

That effort moved him into second spot while McElhinney, who was not enjoying the best of luck, dropped two further strokes to the four he had lost on the first nine to finish in third place.

Meanwhile, in the Nett Category, the competition was enhanced as those players were competing for the St. Patrick’s Perpetual Plate which was presented to the Alliance eight years ago by the Walsh family of Carrigart when they sold the St. Patrick’s Course.

The additional carrot was that the legendary Jack Nicholas presented the Plate to the Alliance on behalf of the Walsh family back on November 15th, 2006.
