McGeady wins at Foyle

WITH the eighth cards returned in the Pitchers Restaurant Spring League at Foyle Team 14 of Joe Doran, Matt Donnell, Ciaran O’Hagan and Leo Young having accumulated 590 points for their eight cards and still hold an eight point lead over the chasing pack and with two cards still to play twelve teams still have a realistic chance of making the top eight places on offer in the match play stage of the league.

Currently in second spot is Team 11 of Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Dermott Harkin and Jim McFadden who have 582 points and Team 7 of Cormac McGeady, Damian McColgan, Eddie McKeever and Andrew McKeever with 575 points are in third spot.

All teams are reminded that the closing date for having cards returned is Sunday, March 24.

The Easter Egg competitions was won by Kenneth Hughes (17) and Brendan Gallagher (21).

The annual Pitchers sponsored St Patricks Open Stableford was played at Foyle on Saturday and when the competition got underway after a slight delay because of the early frost the 95 plus competitors enjoyed very favorable conditions and the Foyle single handicappers came to the fore playing off the back sticks.

Cormac McGeady (4) returning an excellent level par round for his winning 40 points total after a break of tie decision over 7 handicapper Scott Kennedy, with 6 handicapper Damien Martin taking third place after he finished with 39 points.

The gross prize went to Damien McKenna after he finished with 34 points, Otway’s Sean Duffy (19) with 35 points won the visitor’s prize and Martin Gallagher (25) with 22 points won the back nine.

The very competitive Foyle Sunday Society Golfer of the Year Title was decided after the final counting competition on Sunday, March 10, the competition was played over 17 rounds with the best 13 cards to count.

Ciaran O’Doherty having accumulated 506 points for his thirteen cards secured the coveted 2012/13 Title with Cormac McGeady taking the Gross honours.

Society Members are reminded that the Foyle Sunday Society end of season prize presentations will take place on Sunday, at approx 4pm and all prize winners are asked to attend or send a deputy.

The Pitchers Restaurant Spring League Qualifying continues daily until Sunday, as does the Easter Egg Competitions, which too finishes on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the Foyle Sunday Society Captains Day (Sean Sands) is down for deicision and the last cards must be out by 11.30am, while the Rankin Machine Tool Services Foursomes Match Play Championship will start soon and Pairs should be entered by Sunday, March 31.
