McGuigan is back in winners’ circle

ELEVEN handicapper Garvin McGuigan made a welcome return to the winners’ enclosure in Saturday’s club stableford competition at Foyle, after he scored a fine 41 points.

Second was the inform David Knox Jnr (8) with a four over par round for his 40 points and Kevin McBride (7) with 39 points was third. The CSS was 37 points.

The highlight of the competition was a hole-in-one at the par three 8th where Danny McCay holed out with a perfectly struck seven iron for his ace witnessed by his playing partners Martin Campbell, James McCallion and Garvin McGuigan.

The incredible feat will earn him a limited edition Boss H1 Watch.

The over-50s confined competition was claimed by Maurice Temple (16) after he scored 37 points and Joe Kilroy (19) with 36 points was second.

Last Wednesday’s AB Motors NI Ltd sponsored open stableford played at Foyle went to Martin McGough (21) as he took full advantage of the favourable conditions to strike a blow for the high handicappers and in doing so recorded his maiden competition victory albeit virtue of his superior 23 points on the back nine, after a break of tie with second placed Gerald Harkin (13), both players finishing on 41 points.

Nine handicapper Kieran Duffy with 40 points was third and Shane McClean with 37 points won the gross prize.

The back nine went to Paul McGuigan (2) with 23 points and Christine McCafferty (31) with 19 points won the ladies section. The CSS was 35 points.

Foyle Ladies Captain Denise Callan, hosted the Club’s Charity Open on Friday, May 23rd, in aid of her chosen Charity, Foyle Search and Rescue and Margaret Killen from Foyle won.
