The Prehen course was in fantastic condition and with the weather sublime the Waterside course played host to large fields.

Sean McKane (21) was the outstanding player in Saturday’s McFeeley Open Cup, the first competition of the club’s annual open week and he triumphed in great style taking the top spot with an impressive 42 points. His 24 points on the back nine was achieved despite the four shots he dropped on the last two holes.

John O’Kane (10) as forecast last week continued his recent run of good form to take second place on 40 points and is now comfortably in the elite single figure handicap division. Kealan Quigg (+1) had five birdies in his round, a nasty six at the “Water Hole” and still managed third place and the best gross.

James Desmond (15) returned to the winning enclosure taking fourth place with 38 points on a count back. Leo Hickey (19) from the Joondaloop Golf Club in Perth will be taking the Visitor’s prize back with him after his 37 points and Geraldine Crossan (13) was best of the ladies with 29 points.

Open week continued on Sunday with The First Trust Bank sponsored Open Stableford and once again a large field took part with the best of them being David Bradley (15) whose 42 points left him a massive four shots clear of the chasing pack. A very fine 24 points on the front nine was the keystone of his success.

Tommy McBride (5) finally made the podium with his 38 points and second place. Damian King (14) finished in third place with 38 points and Kealan Quigg (+1) took the gross prize on 34 points with a tie break going his way.

The front nine went to Conrad Smith (16) with 22 points and Aldwyn Leckey (13) also with 22 points claimed the back nine accolade, whilst the best of the ladies was Debobah Doherty (21) who had 31 points.

Two of Prehen’s more senior members were the stars of the weekly Thursday Open.

Best of the field was Jack McFarland (19) who after a fairly ordinary front nine of 18 points really went to town on the second nine with 22 points that included a nasty triple bogie at “Aintree” and a winning 40 points.

Second place, losing out on a tie break, thanks to a double bogey on the final hole was Wilf Abel (27) who was absolutely delighted to be back in the prizes and hopes to do even better during this coming Open Week that runs until on Saturday.
