McKeague on song to win Music Rooms stableford at Galgorm Castle

The Music Rooms, Ballymena-sponsored Stableford competition was down for decision at Galgorm Castle Golf Club recently.

After the front nine Kori Gamble (7) was a point ahead of Hugh McKeague (9), Graham Simms (15) and Jordan Hood (-1) who in turn were a point ahead of Gary McWilliams (7). Peter Houston (9) was another point behind.

Through the Maple McKeague stepped up his game to lead by one point from Gamble, Hood and Houston with Simms and McWilliams a further point back. A birdie over Beechers enabled Simms to join McKeague in the lead and tha pair were together approaching 17 where they were two points ahead of Hood.

A bogey, par finish saw McKeague home to as Overall Winner by one point from Simms who finished bogey, double bogey and Hood (par, birdie). Simms with a better back six took the Overall Runner-up place and J Hood won the Gross.

A further point behind Gamble finished with two pars and won Division 1. Another point away Peter Houston (bogey, par) and G McWilliams (bogey, par) finished together and with a better back nine Houston came second with McWilliams third.

Turning for home in Division 2 David Wylie (11) held a one point advantage over Ivan Alexander (14) with Gary Crabbe (13) and Raymond Ardis (12) a further point behind. Approaching 14 Wylie had opened a three point lead from Alexander, Ardis and Crabbe. Alexander and Crabbe had reduced Wylie’s lead to two points through the Grove followed by Ardis another point behind. Wylie with a bogey, par finish held on to his two point lead ahead of Alexander (bogey, par) and Crabbe (par, bogey) who finished together and with a better back nine Crabbe claimed second place with Alexander taking the third place.

There were three players vying for the lead after the front nine in Division 3 – Richard Lennox (18), Adam Martin (16) and John Carruthers (19) – two points ahead of Michael Barr (19).

Up the Grove and with two to play there was a new leader. Martin after two pars and a birdie moved ahead by one point from Lennox and Barr with Carruthers falling back after a ‘ding’ at Beechers. Martin and Lennox were level with one to play however Martin lost his chance of winning when he ‘dinged, the last leaving Richard Lennox with a par the winner by two points from Barr (‘ding’, par). Martin was a further point behind but took second place as Barr won the Seniors. Carruthers (par, bogey) was another point behind.in third place.

At the turn in Division 4 Graham Michael (21) was leading Aaron Gault (26), Ronnie Gilchrist (20) and Barry Mott (20) by two, three and four points respectively. Through the Maple Michael had opened up a six point advantage over Gilchrist and Mott. After Beechers Mott, with a par and a birdie, had closed the gap on Michael to three points followed by Gilchrist another two points behind with Gault a further three points adrift. Michael ‘dinged’ the next two holes and bogeyed the last but held on to win by one point from and with a better back nine second place went to Gilchrist with Gault third.
