McMullans dominate Raceview prize list

The name McMullan came to prominence with 24-handicapper Robert McMullan winning the event with 44 stableford points, with namesake Gary runner-up.

Robert’s first nine holes accounted for 26 points from five pars and four bogeys. The opening four holes of the second nine resulted in three double bogeys and a bogey while his last five holes included one par, three bogeys and another double bogey for a further 18 points.

Two points further back came Gary McMullan (23) who scored 22 points on the outward nine, which he played in seven over par.

The inward nine resulted in six dropped shots and a telling non-event at the 12th but he still managed 20 points.

Third prize went to Thomas Ballentine (12) who also had 42 points only to lose out over the last six holes, where he scored 14 points.

He in turn had a better second nine total from Brian Casey (21) who also had 42 points but his chances were thwarted by a ‘ding’ at the penultimate hole.

Fifth nett prize went to Adam Heron (10) who scored 41 points, of which 23 came from the front nine holes which he played in seven pars and a birdie on the ninth, after having dropped a shot on the par three fourth.

He was just one over par with three holes of the back nine to play but they proved to be game-changing holes as he bogeyed 16 and 17 and then dropped two shots at the final hole which meant no points were added to the 18 he had accumulated.

Sixth place went to Michael Scroggie (8) with 40 points, of which 21 came from the second nine holes, which included a birdie at the 13th. His 19-point total on the way out was compiled from eight holes after a non-event at the fourth.

The best gross score came from three-handicapper John Robinson with a two under par round of 66 shots. His card had 12 pars and four birdies with his only two dropped shots coming on the final two holes.

SUNDAY OPEN

The open stableford event on July 12 saw Cameron Horner come out on top with 39 points.

The eight-handicapper’s front nine of five pars and four bogeys saw him accumulate 18 points. His back nine saw six pars, dropped shots at 11 and 14 and a birdie at the 15th was worth four of the 21 points he gained on those nine holes.

Second prize went to Paul Stevenson (6) who, after a mediocre front nine total of 16 points, rectified the situation with 22 on the homeward nine, where he had six threes on his card, of which four came on the last four holes.

The best gross prize was won by six-handicapper Adam Barr with a four over par round of 72 shots.
