Meehan shines to claim Open stableford prize

The annual Golf Store Europe Open Stableford with its excellent array of prizes attracted a wonderful entry at Foyle.

An impressive 240 competitors took to the pristine Ballyarnett fairways hoping to secure one of the 12 qualifying places in he final where they would compete for the overall top three prizes.

The final was played in balmy conditions with one of Foyle’s rising stars 13 handicapper David Meehan producing an excellent winning score of 41 points and the teenager is now the proud owner of a new set of Callaway Irons.

Second was Ryan Gillen (19) after he finished with 38 points and Gerald Toland (14) with 37 points secured third spot.

The gross winner was Stephen Martin who scored 35 points and Paul McEleney (12) was the day one winner after he scored 39 points and day two winner was Damian McColgan (12) who scored 41 points.

Faughan Valley’s Glen Curran (8) secured the visitors prize after he scored 35 points, Jack Kennedy (12) with 23 points won the back nine.

The Juvenile crown went to Conor McNally (16) after he scored 36 points and Ultan McCool (21) with 34 points was second. Alison Elkin (6) with 41 points won the ladies accolade and Anne Hamilton (12) with 40 points was second in the ladies section.

The Alan Harkens memorial trophy in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care was claimed by Vinnie Brady (13) with 44 points, Damien Kivelehan (9) with 42 points won the category 0-11, the category 12-17 went to Gary Kennedy (12) after he scored 42 points and Paul Duddy (22) with 43 points won the category 18+.

Kieran Bradley (13) with 23 points won the back nine and Damien Kivelehan Junior (27) with 34 points won the juvenile section. Alison Elkin (6) with 41 points won the ladies section and Denise Callan (25) with 41 points was second.

The Cornerstone Automation Open Stableford competition was won by Dylan Nixon (9) after he finished with 40 points, second after a BOT finish was John J Logue (15) who scored 38 points and Mark McKeone (10) was third.

There will be a Prize Presentation a Foyle tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8.30pm for the following Competitions Golf Store Europe 2 Day Open, Alan Harkens Memorial Trophy, Cornerstone Automation Open with all the prize winners listed above asked to attend or send a deputy and all Vouchers won in Club Stablefords, Sweeps and Qualifiers to date (See Notice Board for list of winners).

A 18 Hole Scramble and barbecue for ladies, gents and juveniles will take place on Friday July 4 with a shot gun start at 5.30pm and all members taking part are asked to enter their names on the sheet provided in the shop on or before Thursday July 3 when the draw for teams will take place.

Today (Wednesday) a club stableford competition is down for decision, on Friday an Open stableford takes centre stage and a Crumley Construction monthly medal will be played for on Saturday.
