Michael leads way as golf returns

Golf returned again to Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday after a break for bad weather the previous week, and it was a great day for golf, and again the course was in great condition.

The winner with a great sub-par round of golf was Michael Haughian with 43 points.

Michael started his round with two straight birdies at and was in the money straight away with his two at the second hole. He had only one bogey on the front nine at the third hole, with another birdie recorded at the 9th and the remaining holes played in pars for 25 points.

His back seven contained five straight pars at the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes, a double bogey at the 15th, and a superb eagle three at the last hole for 18 points and his total of 43 points to win by one point.

In second place with 42 points and continuing where he left off two weeks ago when he finished first was Derek Church.

He had 24 points on his front nine with two birdies at the 1st and 8th holes, three pars at the 3rd, 4th and 7th holes and two double bogeys at the 6th and 9th holes.

On the back seven holes he had 18 points with four pars at the 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th holes and the remaining holes played in one over par.

In third place with 41 points was Liam Mackle and once again it was a sub-par round of golf with Liam going round in one under par. He recorded two birdies at the 4th and 7th holes, six pars at the 1st, 3rd,5th, 6th, 8th and 9th holes, and only one bogey at the 2nd for 23 points.

His back seven holes again included two birdies at the 11th and 18th holes, four pars at the 10th, 13th 14th and 15th holes and one bogey at the 12th hole for 18 points.

The gross prize was won yet again by the impressive Fintan McAreavey with a two under par round of golf for 34 gross points.

Fintan was one over par for his front nine with one birdie at the 4th hole, two bogeys at the 5th and 6th holes, and six pars. His back seven holes contained three birdies at the 13th, 14th and 18th holes and four pars.

In fourth place with 41 points was Dermot McCabe, he had 25 points on his front nine with one birdie at the first hole, two bogeys and six pars. His back seven holes had four bogeys and three pars at the 14th, 15th and 18th holes.

Fifth was Brain McShane with 39 points, he had 21 points on his front nine with one birdie, three pars and one double bogey at the 1st hole and four bogeys.

His back seven holes had four pars at the 10th, 13th 14th and 18th holes and three bogeys.

The senior prize was collected by Eamon McCusker with 39 points.
