Victories in two competitions and qualification in the Irish Mixed Foursomes was offset by the Jimmy Bruen team’s disappointment in the qualifying round at Rockmount.

The Irish Mixed Foursomes team finished third at Castlereagh Hills Golf Club. Played in a very strong cold wind the Lisburn total of 296 was three behind Shandon Park and one ahead of Balmoral.

Belvoir Park were clear winners ten strokes ahead of Shandon. Louise and Peter McDonnell had the best score for Lisburn with 71.5. They were well backed up by Valerie Rooney & Brian Houston, Bernie McDonald & Colin Reid, and Adam McKendry & Amy Jeffers.  Daphne Houston’s team now play Shandon Park at Castlereagh Hills.

JIMMY BRUEN

Lisburn’s Jimmy Bruen team played their qualifying competition at the well manicured Rockmount course.

The strong wind sent scores sky high. A three at the very difficult 11th hole helped Josh Robinson and Ben McCambley shoot one of the best rounds of the day with an 87. Stephen Leathem and Linton Kennedy were one behind despite a seven at the final hole.

Disasters at the final holes from Chris Budd & Joe Gatt and Robert Hamilton & Ian Suffern pushed Lisburn outside the qualifying limit.

McCandless Rose Bowl

A strong breeze and a few heavy showers did not prevent Tom Beattie (17) shooting a nett 69 to win the McCandless Rose Bowl.

He completed the front nine in 42 and avoided any disasters on the back nine. Christopher Kelly (15) and Michael Glover (22) finished one stroke in arrears.

Christopher recovered from a seven at the 11th to claim second place on count back. Trevor Murphy, Thomas Jeffers, Simon Ingram and Aaron Marshall finished on 71. The wintery conditions pushed the CSS up to 74.
