Despite blanking “Foyle” he still managed to record 39 points for the 15 holes played and he most certainly will have attracted the attention of the handicap committee.

Early pace setter Kevin Green (13) on 37 points had to settle for second place and he pushed George Baldrick (15) into third, courtesy of a superior last nine score.

Four players finished on 36 points, the best of them being Dennis O’Connell (18) with 24 points for the last nine holes and he was followed home by Brian McClelland (13) and Wilf Abel (21) in that order.

All credit to young Abel who made light of his 83 years to record another podium finish.

Clive Brolly (13) was the clear winner of Saturday’s Turkey competition at Prehen scoring an unbeatable 39 points over the 15 holes played (early onset of darkness precludes any longer competitions).

He scored 24 points at eight of those holes and finished one point clear of second placed Dennis O’Connell (18) who is enjoying a fine run of good form lately.

Those two players are assured of their Christmas Turkey’s and a bottle of spirits went to Gerry Cleary (18) who was best of a quintet on 37 points for third place, his superb finishing nine holes getting him the verdict on a count back.

The two Brian’s Stanford (17) and Mulgrew (18) were the top finishers in the Jim Bresland Trophy at Prehen on Thursday.

Both players scored 36 points and after the tie break Mulgrew took first place and his playing partner was second.

Prehen’s Webmaster Malachy Jackson (14) finally made the podium with an excellent third place finish on 35 points, a score that led the field until the final two cards were handed into the clubhouse.

A superb birdie at the tenth hole was decisive in him edging Richard Burton (12) into fourth place on the count back.
