Morrison lands the Redcastle Ladies’ title

The Bank of Ireland Cup competition at Redcastle on Ladies’ day on Monday, was played in reasonable conditions.

Coming home in first place was Una Morrison (20) with 39 points, second was Lyn McOwen (22) who finished with 38 points and Gena Porter (19) with 37 points.

Next Monday’s competition will be the Kay Tighe First Round (Played as a single stroke competition). Draw times are 10am, 5pm and 5.30pm and the Thursday 9 hole competition draw times are 11am and 6pm

The Redcastle Ladies Open Competition, which is sponsored by CCCP Motor Factors, takes place on Monday, May 19.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Faughan Valley Golf Club hosted a two man foursomes competition, very generously sponsored by North West Pork Products and Meat Factory.

In this most difficult of golfing formats first place, with a score of 67.5 gross went to the pairing of Niall McTaggart and Steven Mullan who a combined handicap of 16.5. In second place, with a combined handicap of 14.5 were Thomas Parkhill and Barney O’Connor with a score of 68.5 and third was the pairing of Terry Dornan and Billy Hutchman with a gross score of 70.5 playing off a handicap of 13.5.

On Sunday, an open Stableford competition took centre stage with Eoghan Brolly taking first spot with a score of 41 points playing off a handicap of 24. In second place was William O’Brien (15) beating Andrew Cooke (26) on a BOT, both scoring 40 points. This week sees the start of the North West Pork 10 sheet challenge.

Just a reminder that this Sunday, the course will be closed until 2pm as we are hosting the Pierce Purcell Shield for the very first time at Faughan Valley.

A great number of clubs from around the North-West area will compete in this prestigious event and we would like to congratulate Mr David Forbes and his green-keeping staff for the sterling work they have put in over recent weeks to ensure that the course is in tip-top condition. The first tee off is at 8.30am.
