Near perfect conditions at Foyle

THE third annual Alan Harkens Memorial Trophy Competition sponsored by Trust Caring and Nursing Agency was staged at Foyle on Saturday last with 100 plus members taking to the Ballyarnett fairways on an fine day for golf. With the course in magnificent condition all was set for good scoring.

John Coyle (18) made full use of the perfect conditions to return an excellent score of 48 points to win ths very coveted title which has now become the Third Major at Foyle.

The category 0-11 was claimed by Paul McLaughlin (11) after he scored 44 points, the category 12-16 went to Martin Campbell (22) after a break of tie finish when he scored 44 points and Paul Nicell (20) with 44 points claimed the category 17+ accolade.

John Hasson (5) with 24 points won the back nine and Gary McEvoy (20) with 42 points won the juvenile section. The CSS was 69.

The fifth of the very popular Foyle Friday Open Compettions saw the largest turnout so far take to the Ballyarnett fairways and the 80 plus competitors enjoyed a course in pristine condition, with a break of tie decision required to decide the winner after the top two player finished on 42 points.

Paul McGuigan (4) completed his round in 2 under par for an excellent 42 points having to be content with the runner up spot as Darren McDaid (22) took top honours by virtue of his superior back nine.

Third spot was also claimed a a BOT finish by Stephen Hiscox (12) after he scored 41 points and City of Derry member Mathew Oak (6) with 39 points won the visitors prize. The CSS was 69.

The PGA Tankard qualifier was won after a BOT finish went to David Fitzpatrick (19 after he scored 40 points and Leo Young (22) was second. The CSS was 70.

On Friday the Open Stableford competition takes centre stage and to book telephone 71352222.

Mr Rob Gallagher's President's Day will be staged on Saturday and the Crumley Construction Monthly Medal takes place on Sunday.
