Neil overcomes poor start to take the prize

Neil (10 now 9) scored 43 points. He started 5,6 and was 3 over par after 2 holes. He finished with a gross 72, still 3 over par. Birdies at 3,7, 12, 14 and 15 certainly helped his cause.

He was a worthy winner and he is delighted to get his handicap into single figures.

Over 170 players teed off in ideal conditions. The level of scoring was excellent. The calculated standard scratch score was nett 68 or 37 points. Seven players equalled the CSS and no less than 26 bettered it.

Shane Crossan (15 now 13) was runner-up , also with 43 points. Shane failed to score at 10 and took a double bogey at the 14th. That’s where he lost it. It was still a great score.

Richard Coburn (12 now 11) won the low section (0-12) with 42 points. He played the last 5 holes in one under par. That certainly catapulted him up the leaderboard.

Kevin McKay (11 now 10) was second in the low section with 39 points.

Seamus McGrath (17 now 16) won the middle section (13-17) with 41 points. An almost flawless round was spoiled by a ding at the 10th hole.

John Fitzpatrick (17 now 16) was second in the middle section with another 41 points. John will win big one of these days, that’s for sure.

Gerry Blevins (20 now 18) won the high section (18+) with 42 points. His wife Ann is bound to be impressed.

Christopher Lennon (18 now 17) was second in the high section with 40 points.

Alex Clarke (12) won the prize for the best senior with 41 points.

Now for the big one. Gareth Magee(6) won the best gross prize with a one over par 70.

“Mr Consistency” Gareth beat Jim Carvill, Ken Stevenson and Kieran Magennis, to name but a few. What a player!

Tommy Gillespie and Aaron Buchanan deserve a mention. They both had 41 points and both went home empty-handed.

It was Neil Comiskey’s day and we are all delighted for him.
