New leaders at Foyle's Spring League

WITH seven cards returned in the Brickkiln Spring League at Foyle, and teams now having to drop their lowest scores as the six best from ten cards count, new leaders have emerged.

Team 16 of John McDowell, Paddy Coyle, David Knox and Stuart Gauld lead with an accumulated total of 596 points for their best six cards albeit on a break of tie from long time leaders Team 6 of Liam McCafferty, Paul McIntyre, Jarlath Clarke and Richard Burton who also have 596 points.

Team 2 of Maurice Temple, Jim McGrotty, John J Logue and John Coyle are in third place two points adrift after another excellent score of 101 points and a six card total of 594 points.

The last three cards should see further changes to the leader board as the 20 teams continue their pursuit of the eight qualifying places in the Match play stages of this very competitive league.

Team 3 of Damien McColgan, Cormac McGeady, Martin Kivelehan and Kevin McDaid are currently in fourth spot with 590 points.

The Easter Egg competitions went to Kevin Thomas, Damien McColgan and Gerry Breslin.

The annual St Patrick's Day Open kindly sponsored by Pitcher's Restaurant got the 2010 Open Competition season underway at Foyle with 130 plus competitors taking to the Ballyarnett fairways on a fine day and they enjoyed a course in fine condition.

Noel Kiernan (17) from Otway Golf Club made full use of the favourable conditions to return an excellent winning score of 42 points, one of Foyle Golf Club's young members 13 handicapper Shane Bonner finished second after a break of tie decision with third placed Paul McEleney (19) both player scoring 41 points.

The Gross winner was Damien McKenna after he scored 34 points, Ballybofey's James Grant (14) with 35 points won the visitors prize, the back 9 accolade went to Steafan McKinney (17) after he scored 24 points and Plunkett Keys from Ballybofey was nearest the pin.

Foyle Golf Club Members are reminded that Club Membership is now due and must be payed on or before April 1st to enable Members to play for Competition prizes. Optonal Insurance is also due and should be payed by the same date.
