While Eric Watson (14) took first place in Sunday’s Club Stableford at Prehen with a well compiled 42 points.

Eric is in fine form just now having won the club foursomes qualifying event last week partnered by James Desmond.

Michael McDaid (11) was in second place, a favourable tie break that included birdies on 16 and 18 falling in his favour over Eddie Maxwelll (12), both players on 40 points.

Chris Ross (6) had 30 points to win the gross on a tie break and Marie Gillespie (35) on 36 points was best of the ladies.

Michael O’Hara (18) took first place in the final event of Prehen’s Annual Open Week that concluded on Sunday with the Everglades Hotel sponsored Open Stableford.

Michael had an impressive 40 points a score that was helped considerably thanks to the new custom fitted clubs Michael was using for only the second time as supplied by Sam Smallwoods, the Clubs Head Professional.

Gregory Oates (21) needed a favourable tie break to finish second just ahead of Chris Ross (7), both players returning 38 points. Lester Moore (1) collected another gross prize with 34 points and the nines went to Tom McDermott (23), 19 points on the back nine and Richard Burton (15) with 23 on the back nine. Veronica Burke (24) was the best of the ladies on the day with 28 points.

Ronan Coyle (9) was the clear winner of Saturday’s Open at Prehen scoring a magnificent 44 points in the Mercedes Benz (NI) sponsored event.

That completed a hat-trick of victories for young Ronan, a series of wins that started way back in April when he took first place in the Vauxhall (Eakin Bros) Open followed by success in the weekly Thursday Open in May. And he also finished in second place in May’s Open Stroke.

Tom McDermott (23) was best of a trio that recorded 41 points and finished in second place. James Kilgore (9) and Jack Logue (19) were third and fourth respectively.

James Kelly (4) had 34 gross points to win that category and the nines went to Trevor Heywood (18) with 21 points out and Larry Coyle (21) won the back nine with 22 points.

A surprisingly modest 38 points was the winning score in The Weekly Thursday Open at City of Derry.

That didn’t detract from Campbell Jackson’s (14) delight at posting that total. He laughed all the way to the Pro Shop to collect his winning voucher.

A break of tie on 37 points went in favour of Stephen Doherty (12) over Ronan Burns (13).

Ernie Heywood (1) recorded 35 points to take the gross prize and Des Elliott (16) a regular and most welcome visitor from Ballyliffin to the Opens was best of that category on 36 points. Thursday Opens at Prehen continue right through to October.

Meanwhile the Crumley Construction monthly medal competition at Foyle saw the Cat 0-10 claimed by Kevin McDermott (8) after he scored nett 69.

The Cat 11-16 went to Conor O’Kane (13) after finishing with nett 66 and Cat 17+ was claimed by Michael Gallagher (26) when he scored Nett 66.

Friday’s Open went to Gavin McDonnell (18) after he scored 42 points and Martin Tope (4) with 41 points was second after a break of tie finish. The CSS was 38 points.

The club competitions get underway today with the Mid Summer Open Stableford competition sponsored by Fyfes Motor Factors taking centre stage; Friday sees the Desmond Motors Foyle Friday Open being staged.

The Alan Harkens Memorial Trophy in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care is down for decision on Saturday, while the Sunday’s Club Stableford competition takes place 24 hours later.
