No joy in Lisburn for the locals

The qualifying rounds for the Junior Cup were played last Sunday.

The Banbridge team had to travel the short distance to Lisburn, a course that is familiar to all the local players.

Team captain, Rory Madeley, had selected what he considered a very strong team but, on the day, the ball did not run too kindly for them.

Four 82’s would have been good enough to qualify but that target proved to be out of reach.

Paul Magennis opened with an excellent score of 80 and his brother Kieran shot a respectable 83.

At that stage, Banbridge were one shot below their target. But things went downhill after that.

William Malcolmson had an 84, Josh Lockhart an 86 and Neil Madeley an 88.

The Banbridge four-card total of 333 was five or six shots too high.

Never mind, everyone did his best and, in six months time, there won’t be a word said about it.

- It has been a disappointing few weeks for the members of the juvenile teams at Banbridge Golf Club.

But the Ronan Rafferty team won the home leg of their tie with Ashfield 12-8. That was a four points lead but it wouldn’t be enough to take to Ashfield.

Luke Woods (4) won his game and got 3.5 points; Josh Crory (9) got a half match worth 2 points.

Banbridge got one more point from Callum Barnes.
