No-one ‘Ken’ top Herbison’s winning total at Raceview

The Saturday competition at Ballymena Golf Club was sponsored by Rainey & Gregg and the winner was club secretary Ken Herbison.

Playing off a handicap of 20, he posted a total of 43 stableford points - two ahead of his nearest competitor.

A front nine of three pars plus six bogeys yielded 22 points, to which Ken added two pars and seven bogeys on the final seven holes which were worth another 21 points.

Second place was taken by Chris McCrory (12) who had the best of three 41-point returns, having scored 21 of his points on the second nine.

His first nine of five pars, bogeys on the first and fifth, a birdie at the third and a non-score at the sixth, had added up to 20 points and his second nine included five pars, two bogeys, a double bogey and a very valuable four-point birdie on the 17th.

Chris had a better second nine score from Maurice Harkin (22), who scored 22 points on his outward nine after two pars, six bogeys and a double bogey at the third.

His inward nine was comprised of seven bogeys, a double bogey on the 12th and his lone par came on the 10th as he amassed 20 points, one more than fourth-placed Thompson Eccles (14).

Thompson scored four pars, four bogyes plus a birdie at the seventh for 22 points from the opening nine holes but he was only able to add a further 19 after four pars, three double bogeys, a bogey and a birdie at the 10th.

Fifth nett was James McClintock Jnr (17) with 40 points, of which 22 were on the second nine where he scored five pars, three bogeys and a double bogey on the 16th.

Earlier, James scored four pars, three bogeys, a double bogey at the ninth and a non-event at the sixth, for 18 points.

Noel Kidd (14) claimed the sixth nett prize also with 40 points having scored nine pars, eight bogeys and a double bogey on the 15th for equal nines of 20 points.

Gary Black (2) reaped the benefit of another best gross score where he scored 13 pars, four bogeys and a birdie at the 13th.

WEDNESDAY OPEN

The Wednesday open stableford provided a victory for Thomas Dalrymple who, playing off a handicap of 13, scored 40 points, of which 21 came from the front nine, which included a birdie at the par four eighth.

Nigel Getty (5) was runner-up with 39 points with 21 of them coming on the secon nine which he played in level par gross.

The best gross card came from Jake carson (6) who played the course in four over par.

LADIES

Claire Stewart was last week’s victor when she claimed the PGA Medallion at the Raceview course.

She completed her 18 holes with 37 points in the bag, one more than her closest rival and runner-up, Jill Crockard.
