Noel ‘Tots’ up victory in first winter sweep competition at Raceview

The first of these, on October 4, was won by Noel Totten who, playing off a handicap of nine, returned a total of 41 stableford points.

Eighteen of those came from the front nine and that included a non-event on the par three seventh.

The back nine was a much better event as Noel played the nine holes in level par, scoring five pars, a dropped shot apiece on the 11th and 12th which he managed to retrieve with birdies on the 13th and 16th, which equated to 23 points for the nine holes.

Noel finished two points clear of runner-up Allan McCullough (27), who had the best of the three 39 point returns.

A first nine of 20 points was added to with 19 more on the second nine - that despite a non-score on the 15th.

Those 19 points on the second nine were one better than third-placed Fergus Mckelvey (9) and two better than fourth-placed David Chambers.

McKelvey covered the outward nine in one over gross for 21 points to which he aded a five over on the inward nine where he registered four pars plus five bogeys for a further 18 points.

Chambers (16) scored seven fours plus a five and a six on the two par fives for 22 points going out. A double bogey on the 10th was followed by a non-score and he went on to complete the second nine with four bogeys plus three pars giving David 17 points.

Fifth nett prize was won by Peter SMith (15) who score a total of 38 points and again on a better second nine total from Bruce McKenzie (11).

Smith played the outward nine to his handicap for 18 points whereas he was two inside his allotted handicap on the inward nine for 20 points.

McKenzie played the first nine in three over gross for 20 points, whereas he was six over on the second nine which yielded 18 points.

The best gross prize was won by Steven Smyth (3) who played the course in three over par, 71 shots.

Steven’s first nine was made up of seven pars plus a dropped shot on each of the sixth and ninth, while the second nine contained eights pars plus a dropped shot on the 12th.
