Olivia out to upset England

It will also be her first in Ireland as the tournament comes across the Irish Sea.

Olivia’s eight girl team will take on England, Scotland and Wales at Donabate Golf Club, Dublin and she knows they have to make full use of home advantage to claim a rare victory.

“It will be great playing it in Ireland and we’ll have a lot of support. I’m really looking forward to that,” she said.

“We’ve been second for the last three years behind England. We’ve got to come out strong this year because this will probably be our best chance to win it saying it’s at home.

“We’ve all played at Donabate and got in practice rounds there which should really help us. We’ve had the pratice days and done plenty of promotion work for the tournament as well so that will all help us going into it.”

It will be a busy August for Olivia, who goes straight from the Home Internationals to China to compete as Ireland’s female golfer in the Junior Olympics.

Olivia Mehaffey is keen to finally overcome old foe England this week in the Girls Home Internationals.

Her Ireland side begin on Wednesday against the current champions and Olivia has her eyes set on an upset.

“England are forever winning it but it’s a good thing that we play them first this year,” she said.

“We actually beat them last year but drew with Scotland so that’s why we didn’t win.

“Personally, I’ve done a lot of practice this week and there’s no reason why I can’t go into this playing well.”

She also confirmed it could be her final time in the U18 tournament:

“I am eligible to play next year but I don’t think I will at the minute.

“I’ve played girls since I was 13 and the British Girls starts two days after the Home Internationals next year. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I haven’t confirmed anything but this could be my last.”
