O’Neill wins charity open

FAUGHAN Valley Golf Club held a charity weekend last Saturday and Sunday, with funds going to Friends of Altnagelvin, Autism Northern Ireland and Faughan Vale Community Care.

Again the generosity of people was over whelming and with golfers from most of the local clubs taking part it was another successful event.

The winner of the event was former Northern Ireland international John O’Neill (13) who carried the winning score over from Saturday of 42 points, in second spot was 15 handicapper Barry Reilly with 42 points and in third spot was 24 handicapper Trevor Simpson who took it on a BOT from Bernard O’Kane of Moyola Park both carding 39 points.

The gross was won by James Lindsay (3) with 71 nett, the front nine went to John Kelly with 21 points and the back nine was won by Damien Boyle also with 21 points.

The longest drive and nearest the pin went to Peter Hasson and Kevin Hunter respectively, and the Juvenile prize was claimed by 5 handicapper Peter Hasson of City of Derry with 39 points.

In the Ladies category the winner was Jackie McNulty (28) with 36 points, second spot went Elizabeth Mullan with 29 points playing off 27, with 26 handicapper Marion Sayers taking third spot with 27 points, the front nine went to Eileen Robb with 12 points and Pearl Cowell took the back nine with 15 points, with the Lady Captain hitting the longest drive.

This Saturday the club will be hosting the Keith Cameron Trophy competition.
