Page wins first ever Society title

Damian Page (18) recorded his first ever Sunday Society victory in the Society’s latest competition that was played over 15 holes with the limited amount of daylight at this time of year.

A well compiled 35 points was one ahead of the in form Clive Brolly (11). 33 points secured the third place for the ever present John Hancock (13).

Paul Glackin (10) scored 32 points for fourth place and Brendan Sands (17) was best of five players on 31 points for the the fifth prize. Bert Glackin (13) was sixth with his 31 points.

Peter Leeson (16) played a few holes after the frost had cleared on Thursday at City of Derry and it clearly helped him considerably as he romped to victory in the Saturday Stableford scoring a fine 35 points over the 15 hole competition course and a three point winning margin.

Jim McDaid (15) was best of two people on 32 points. The favourable break of gave him second place over Thursday Society treasurer Eddie Mitchell (14) who will be ruing the costly blank on the 16th hole.

Meanwhile Mrs Gena Porter was presented with the Lady Captain’s brooch by outgoing Lady Captain Mrs Audrey MCGurk, who wished her a successful year as Lady Captain, at the AGM of The Ladies Branch of Redcastle Golf Club.

The Club officials for this year are Gena Porter, Lady Captain; Una McGeough, Vice-Captain; Gill Eakin, Secretary; Suzanne McGonigle, Treasurer; Una Smyth, Competition Secretary; Una Morrison, Handicap Secretary; Mary McArthur, Press Officer; Oonagh McDermott, Committee Member and Audrey MCGurk, Ex officio.

Spring League commences on Sunday and continues for seven weeks.
