Paul takes win on marrow margin

In the end it was Paul McFadden and Derek Boyd who finished well ahead of everyone to top the leaderboard with scores of 45 points each. A countback was necessary and Paul McFadden (13) emerged the victor by the narrowest of margins over the last three holes.

Paul covered the front nine in 33 shots, which converted to 26 points. The bulk of these points were compiled from two nett eagles and four nett birdies.

He completed the seven holes opened on the back nine in level par to amass another 19 points. It was his nett eagle on the eighteenth that proved to be the determining factor in his victory.

Derek Boyd (15) was then awarded second place after another close encounter, which saw his very impressive 45 points total fall short after a countback.

Derek covered the front nine in one under par, which also gave him a return of 26 points. The bulk of this scoring came from two nett eagles at the 1st and 9th with a sprinkling of four nett birdies in between.

Bogies at the 17th and 18th proved costly and ruled out any chance of winning but nevertheless he had done enough to accrue another 19pts for the homeward journey and justify second place.

Eamon Doherty (16) came third with a score of 41 points, in fourth place came Billy Sterrett (21) with a very creditable 40 points and Ted Hardy (21) took fifth place also with a score of 40 points.

Shane O’Neill (7) won the gross prize with 32 gross points.

Other notable scores posted, Brian McShane finished with 40 points, John Carson, Finbar Headley, James Nelson and Frank Stevenson all finished on 39 points.
