Paul’s great form continues to lift McCready Salver

Taking part in the Max McCready Salver at Dunmurry Golf Club were from left - Brian McCarey, Stephen Duncan, Dennis Sheridan, and Oliver Totten.

The in-form 27 handicapper had another superb round, 10 shots better than his handicap for a nett 60 to win by two shots.

Paul had the luxury of even having a nine at the par four sixth, pars at the par three third and seventh holes helping him round the front nine in a ten over 45.

On the back nine, pars at the 10th, 14th, 16th, and 18th, plus a birdie two at the 12th saw him home in 42 for a nett 60 and victory.

Second place went to Ciaran McCaffrey (18), who returned an excellent 62 which would have won him top spot any other week this summer.

Ciaran went round the front nine in four over par 39 ,dropping shots at the first, third, fifth and ninth.

On the back nine, Ciaran was on course for overall victory but five dropped shots on the last four holes, which proved costly.

Damien White (9) continued his impressive form with yet another top three finish thanks to an excellent round of 72 for a nett 63. Damien recorded birdies at the fourth and fifth and dropped shots at the second and sixth for a level par 35 for the front nine. Dropped shots at the 11th and 14th were the only blemish on the back nine as he went round in 37.

Another golfer having a good summer is Johnny Moore (19). He recovered from a poor start to reach the halfway point in eight over par 43. On the back nine, birdies at the 10th and 16th plus a par on the final hole helped to return 41 and a score of 84, a nett 65 to claim fourth spot.

Joe McCallion (11) was a model of consistency going round the front nine in four over 39 dropping shots at the third and eighth and a double bogey at the sixth. It was similar story on the back nine only dropping shots at the 15th, 16th and 17th for a three over par 38 and a super score of 77 and a nett 66, and fifth spot.

The gross prize was won by scratch golfer Glenn McAuley who returned a four under par 66, which included six birdies at the seventh, eighth, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th dropping shots at the sixth and ninth.

On Sunday, it was a case of mixed fortunes for Dunmurry teams – the Senior Cup side suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Ballyclare with Darren Crowe the only player to record a victory.

However, it was much better news for the Holt Shield side that defeated Ormeau 7-3 in their final game to finish top of their group and go into the knockout stages as a seeded side.
