Peter and Owen win again

This year’s Silver Mounted Golf Ball winners, Peter McMullan and Owen Kennedy, combined superbly once again to win Saturday’s fourball betterball competition at Ballycastle with an excellent score of 45 points.

Between them, Peter and Owen picked up birdies at the 3rd, 5th and 9th holes in an outward half of 23 points and further birdies were added at the 12th and 15th on their way to a narrow one point victory. Second prize went to the pairing of Tony Norris and Patrick Dallat snr who made birdies at the 5th, 11th and 17th holes in their fine total of 44 points. 23 points on the back nine from John Callan and Steven Devlin helped them finish in third place ahead of Sean McCullough and Brendan McCollam in fourth and the father/son combination of Gerard and Peter Dowds in fifth after all three pairs recorded 41 points in Saturday’s competition.

The weather was disagreeable for Sunday’s stableford competition at Ballycastle but thirty-four committed members did take part with Vincent Gallagher finishing in first place ahead of Eamonn Hackett on count-back after both golfers returned a very creditable score of 35 points in the tough conditions. Third prize went to Danny Taggart with a total of 34 points just ahead of Paul Fairley who had the considerable consolation of making the only ‘2’ on Sunday.

Seamus Killough was in fine form during last Wednesday’s open stableford competition as he rolled in birdies at the 1st, 6th, 10th and 16th holes on his way to victory with an impressive score of 43 points. Second place went to Raymond Browne for his score of 38 points with Galgorm’s John McCarry taking the third prize after he too carded a total of 38 points.

The stableford competition at Ballycastle on Saturday 17th September will be held to raise funds for Causeway Artscare. This charity provides art projects and help for people in Residential Homes in the Moyle area.

Sunday’s competition at the club will be a scramble with teams of three or four able to participate.
