Over seventy pairs entered the competition with George Moore and Gareth Poole topping the field with 46 points. In second place on 45 points were Frank McCourt and Russell McDonald. Third place went to Fergus McCartney and Niall Marshall with Jim Britain and Douglas Bain fourth. Jonny Patterson and Ben Fraser had the best gross on the day a three under par score of 69.

The annual Past Captain’s trophy competition is one of the most hotly contested competitions of the year especially amongst the men’s past Captain’s. Could anyone wrestle the trophy away from habitual winner Frank Wallace who has won the competition no fewer than four times? The Ladies competition was won by Barbara Fleet with Ciara Agnew a very close second. The men’s competition turned out to be a two horse race between Frank Wallace and Peter O’Hara. With one hole to play both were on the same score; Peter played to the last green in regulation whilst Frank missed the green. Peter had an easy two putt and Frank needed to get up and down from off the green. Frank chipped to six feet (twelve feet by the end of the night) and made the putt. With the scores tied the winner was decided on count back with Peter O’Hara winning his first Past Captain’s trophy after successfully wrestling it away from Frank. Frank had to settle for second place. Lady Captain Janet Douds and Gents Captain Paul Banford presented both winners with their coveted trophies.
