Peter Hillen’s team were only three holes up after the home leg and that was never going to be enough.

But, all credit to his team, they put up a tremendous fight over the very tricky Cloverhill course.

Adam McGregor and Neil Diamond, despite being hit with five birdies, lost narrowly by 0ne hole.

Cathal O’Neill and Malcolm Russell lost by three holes.

Cloverhill were now one hole ahead overall.

Peter Hillen and Callum Barnes levelled the score by winning their game by one hole up. So it all boiled down to the fourth and final game.

Richard Coburn and James Wilson were caught out by the intricacies of the Cloverhill course and they came to the closing stages four holes down. They were called in as Bann had run out of holes.

It was close but, as far as Banbridge were concerned, the damage was done at home.

We can only wish Cloverhill good luck in the remaining rounds. It will take a good team to beat them.
