After the very heavy rain on Friday night it looked like the course might be closed on Saturday morning.

Head greenkeeper Robert Nelson had to wait until eight o’clock before declaring the course open. There were a few puddles but the new drainage system on the ninth fairway proved its worth.

The sun came out in the afternoon to make it a very pleasant day. The good weather and the excellent condition of the greens resulted in some excellent scores. Philip Stewart’s 24 points was two ahead of George Heatherington (20) and Stephen Stewart (9). Stephen’s birdies at the fourth and seventh were not sufficient to claim second place.
