Philip secures more glory for Rathmore Golf Club

THERE must be something in the water down at Rathmore Golf Club because the seaside club is celebrating again.

Following in the footsteps of fellow club members Graeme McDowell and Alan Dunbar is Philip Doherty after he won gold at the World Police and Fire Games.

Playing in the 0-7 group the 25-year-old, who was representing the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service finished top of the pile after a very competitive three day competition.

The six handicapper recorded rounds of 77, 79 and 80 at Shandon Park, Malone and Belvoir Park to win by two shots in the end.

“I’m delighted to have won the gold,” Philip, who only moved to Edinburgh last October after five years at Portrush Fire Station, told Times Sport.

“It was a tough field with a lot of good golfers.

“I’d like to thank the Scottish Fire Service who paid my entrance fees and my colleagues who helped with my time off.”
