As the day progressed ranging from bright sunshine through to some thundery downpours, what was consistent was the quality of scoring with some fine returns needed to book a place in the matchplay stages for the top eight pairs.

Finishing top of the pile with a net 61.6 were Kenny Montgomery and Brian Thom and as fate would have it their opponents in the match play stages are their playing partners on Saturday Cyril Rafferty and Robert Langridge who qualified eighth overall with a net 67.
