Plenty of sweep action at Ballymena Golf Club

The final Ballymena Golf Club sweep competition in November saw Clifford Anderson (9) top the scoring with 32 points over the 13-hole course.

Having dropped three shots in the first four holes, Clifford played the rest of the course with eight pars plus a dropped shot on the par four eighth.

His final four holes produced 12 points against 10 from David McCright (12) who also record 32, only to be pipped over those last four holes.

In total, David scored sevena pars plus six bogeys.

Category one was won by Dermot McElroy (+3) who played the 13 holes in six under 44 shots. Dermot commenced his round birdie, par, birdie, birdie and the only dropped shot came on the par four eighth but he birdied the ninth and completed his round with birdies at the last two holes which amounted to 29 points for the round.

Colin Wallace had the top score in category two where the nine-handicapper notched 29 points, despite having a non-score on the par five third.

Colin’s card read six pars, five bogeys plus a birdie on the seventh.

Category three saw Stephen Surgenor (10) collect a total of 31 points from a round of seven pars, four bogeys, a triple bogey on the fourth and a birdie on the par five ninth.

Fred Johnston (17) took the category four prize with a total of 31 points.

Fred had double shots on four of the holes and they were rewarding as he scored 11 points on those holes.

The best gross card came from Chris Magee (4) who played the 13 holes in one over par gross, 50 shots.

The first Saturday in December resulted in Thompson Eccles (11) emerging as top dog with a total of 34 points, which pipped second-placed Campbell Wade (9) by one point.

Thompson had six pars, five bogeys plus birdie on the third and 10th.

Wade scored 12 pars and his ony blot was on the eighth, where he dropped two shots, and he amassed eight three-pointers.

Having won the gross prize the previous week, Chris Magee and Dermot McElroy swapped places with Chris winning category one.

The three-handicapper posted 31 points, which came via seven pars, two bogeys and he birdied the third, sixth, 11th and 13th.

Category two went to James Allen (9) who scored 32 points, which came from six pars, five bogeys and he birdied the sixt hand seventh.

Peter Smith (11) came good in category three as he return a winning total of 32 points, which came from nine pars, three single bogeys and a double bogey on the second.

Keith Barrow (15) scored seven pars in his winning total of 30 points in category four and he had a non-score on the 12th, as well as dropping three shots on the 11th.

The best gross came from +3 handicapper Dermot McElroy who played the 13 holes in four under, 46 shots.

Dermot scored seven pars, a bogey on the eighth but he birdied the fifth, sixth, ninth, 10th and 13th.
