Porter leads the way at Prehen

THE City of Derry Thursday Society, Week 19 was claimed by Cecil Thompson (13) after he scored 39 points, second was Jack McFarland (19) with 38 points and Tony McCann (12) with 36 points was third.

The Golfer of the Year, which has one outing remaining sees Ricky Porter with 178 points lead the way after week 19. Second at the minute is Davy Godfrey with 165 points and Fred Young with 157 points sit in third spot.

The Sunday Society Captains Day will now take place this weekend, while the Ted Pope Trophy will be down for decision on Thursday, April 18.

Liam McCafferty held off a very strong challenge from Robin McClay and Brian Stanford to win Mr. Mike Carroll’s Thursday Society Skippers Prize at Prehen, despite a blank at the last hole.

The 22 handicapper put together 40 points over the long Prehen course, second after a break of tie finish was McClay (15) who scored 39 points and Stanford was third after he too scored 39 points.

Ricky Porter was the outstanding golfer of the year with Davy Godfrey and Fred Young taking the minor places. Former club president Alan Montgomery was the winner of Past Skippers Prize sponsored by Robbie Kennelly.

City of Derry’s popular Thursday weekly Opens start again tomorrow and they will run every week from now until October and visitors of course will be made more than welcome.
