Rathmore Town Cup tie break win for Eamon

Fresh from his captaincy Eamon Donnelly won the Town Cup at Rathmore GC on Sunday with a score of 39 points.

He had blanked the second hole and hit a couple of double bogies on his way to a front nine score of just 15 points before relaxing to get round the back nine in just one over par! Eamon birdied the twelfth in three and bogied the last and all the other seven holes were parred. Once his thirteen handicap was applied he had bagged 24 points from the back nine to boost his tally to 39 and push Simon Carruthers into second place with the same total.

Simon plays off five and had nabbed a birdie four at the fourth and another bird with his three at the ninth to have 21 points scored at the turn. With the aid of a two at eleven and his final birdie three at fourteen, his 18 from the back nine got him onto 39 points but Eamon’s 24 back was always going to be too difficult to better so second spot it was. Barney McGuckian was third man with a tally of 38 points. In fact fourth and fifth were on 38s as well. Barneys last six won him this battle as Jonathan Hutchinson matched front and back nines of 19 each with Barney. Colm Friel scored 21 out and 17 back to be pushed into fifth.

The best Gross prize was taken by Chris Dunbar’s fine round of 70. He birdied both opening holes to help him round the front nine in level par 35. Ten gave up a birdie four and, with a three at twelve helping again, Chris finished by adding another level par 35 to his card.
