Robinson and MacLoed take on captains’ roles at Carrick

Both the ladies and gents’ Annual General Meetings have been held at Carrickfergus Golf Club.

The ladies’ meeting reported a very successful year with competitions well attended and excellent results in inter-club competitions, the winning of the East Antrim League being the most prominent victory.

The new Lady Captain is Lily Robinson with Dawn Jamison as her vice-captain. Hazel Lockhart was re-elected as Honorary Treasurer, Helen Vizard as Honorary Secretary and Joan Rea as Match and Handicap Secretary.

At the gents’ AGM an extremely successful year was also reported. Club competitions were again well supported and Open Week drew a record entry. Inter-club events proved popular with the Holt Shield win over Fortwilliam the undoubted highlight of 2013.

Excellent returns from both course an bar have enabled the club to carry out major upgrades to the course, and three new greens should be ready for play in the new season. The dam area is also being renovated. An extensive upgrade of the bar and dining area will be carried out in the New Year.

Duncan MacLoed is the new men’s captain for 2014, with Des Nelson as his vice-captain. Henry Hunter is the new president with Sam McAllister as vice-president. Des Graham was re-elected as Honorary Secretary and Geoff Wallace as Honorary Treasurer.

Carrick members elected were: Stephen Ashe, Jim Beck, Jim Bruce, Ken Knocker, Leslie Lyle and Simon Wady.

Saturday’s competition at Carrick was again a 12 holes Stableford event with three starting points.

Results: Point A - Tom Lyttle (28 pts), Barry McCormick (28), Alan Adair (27), Sam McAllister (26). Point B - Raymond Hagan (28), Paul Dillon (29), Drew Meek (28), Stephen McAlinden (28). Point C - Henry Hunter (28), Jack Purdy (27), Alan Blaney (27), Ron Kelly (26).
